Apprentice and trainee job search

New and existing apprentices and trainees can use Apprenticeship Central's free platform to create a profile and apply for positions.

Apprenticeships

Apprentices are trained in a skilled trade (e.g. electrical, plumbing, cabinet-making, automotive) and, upon successful completion, become a qualified tradesperson. Apprenticeships generally take up to 4 years to complete.

Australian Apprenticeship Support Network

Local Australian Apprenticeship Support Network providers assist and support apprentices, trainees and employers from pre-commencement to completion.

Community Foundation Skills program

Community Foundation Skills, part of the Skilling Queenslanders for Work initiative, assists Queenslanders with low level language, literacy, numeracy and digital (LLND) skills to equip them with the knowledge and confidence to participate successfully in a modern knowledge economy.

  • I am a Queensland resident aged 15 years or over
  • I am long-term unemployed, and experience significant barriers to learning and employment
  • I am ineligible for Australian Government employment services, or remain unemployed after accessing these services

Encouraging entrepreneurship and self-employment

Support for individuals to start a business is available through 4 key measures: Entrepreneurship Facilitators, SelfStart Online Hub, the New Enterprise Incentive Scheme (NEIS) and workshops providing young people with a taste of self-employment.

Enterprise Skills for Youth Project (Back to Work)

The Enterprise Skills for Youth Project provides young people, aged between 15 and 24 years, with funding for accredited short courses and additional support services (e.g. Blue card, industry licensing, work ready sessions) to assist in getting a job.

  • I need assistance to get a job

Free apprenticeships for under 25s

The Queensland Government will cover the full cost of your training with an eligible training provider when you choose a high priority apprenticeship or traineeship. You must commence, or have commenced, between 1 January 2021 and 31 December 2023.

  • I am undertaking an eligible apprenticeship or traineeship

Get Set for Work program

Get Set for Work, part of the Skilling Queenslanders for Work initiative, provides intensive employment and training assistance over a 12-month period to young, disengaged Queenslanders aged 15-19 years.

  • I am long-term unemployed, and experience significant barriers to learning and employment
  • I am ineligible for Australian Government employment services, or remain unemployed after accessing these services

Indigenous Youth Mobility Pathways Project

The Indigenous Youth Mobility Pathways Project (IYMP) aims to help young Indigenous Australians with tailored advice and support to relocate for education, work or training and achieve their long-term career goals.

  • I am an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, aged 16-24 years
  • I want to start my future career
  • I'm willing to relocate for my career

Industry Training Hubs

Industry Training Hubs offer opportunities to young people (targeting year 11 and 12 students) to build skills and choose occupations in high demand in their region. The Hubs are currently operating in regions with high youth unemployment.

  • I live in Maryborough or Townsville
  • I want to work in a high demand occupation within my region
  • I am, or on the verge of becoming, disengaged with employment

Link and Launch

Link and Launch officers are based at participating schools to connect with young people who have completed year 12 but not yet transitioned to further study, training or work. The program is run on school sites but is separate from the rest of the school, and you don't need to be a former student of the school to participate.

  • I completed year 12 in the last 2 years
  • I am not engaged in education, employment, or training
  • I need assistance to take the next step in my education and/or employment

Observational Work Experience

This work experience is a short-term, unpaid placement allowing participants, who are not yet job-ready, to build their workplace skills.

  • I am aged 15 years or over
  • I have limited or no experience in the workplace, and want to gain skills to equip me for work
  • I am participating in an eligible employment service through Workforce Australia, Transition to Work, or Disability Employment Services

Opening Doors Program

The Australian Taxation Office's Opening Doors program is a 12-month non-ongoing program giving candidates experience in a large professional office environment. Roles may be filled across a variety of disciplines, including law, accounting, IT, HR, marketing and comms.

ParentsNext

ParentsNext supports parents and carers to take the next step after caring for children. The program aims to develop participants' skills, help arrange financial support for job preparation or other work-related expenses and connect participants to local support services.

  • I have been receiving the Parenting Payment for the last 6 months
  • I care for a child over 9 months old and under 6 years old
  • I want assistance to find employment

Pre-employment support program (Back to Work)

The Pre-employment support program (PEP) provides eligible jobseekers with access to one-on-one support from a Jobseeker Officer, to understand their career goals, find available employment pathways and develop a plan for the future.

  • I identify with 1 or more of the following groups - aged 15-24 years, Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, people with disability, or long-term (over 52 weeks) unemployed
  • I need assistance with my career goals, including resume writing, interview skills and navigating the local job market
