Apprentice and trainee job search

New and existing apprentices and trainees can use Apprenticeship Central's free platform to create a profile and apply for positions.

Apprenticeships

Apprentices are trained in a skilled trade (e.g. electrical, plumbing, cabinet-making, automotive) and, upon successful completion, become a qualified tradesperson. Apprenticeships generally take up to 4 years to complete.

Australian Apprenticeship Support Network

Local Australian Apprenticeship Support Network providers assist and support apprentices, trainees and employers from pre-commencement to completion.

Community Foundation Skills program

Community Foundation Skills, part of the Skilling Queenslanders for Work initiative, assists Queenslanders with low level language, literacy, numeracy and digital (LLND) skills to equip them with the knowledge and confidence to participate successfully in a modern knowledge economy.

  • I am long-term unemployed, and experience significant barriers to learning and employment
  • I am ineligible for Australian Government employment services, or remain unemployed after accessing these services

Support for individuals to start a business is available through 4 key measures: Entrepreneurship Facilitators, SelfStart Online Hub, the New Enterprise Incentive Scheme (NEIS) and workshops providing young people with a taste of self-employment.

Harvest Trail assists Australian residents and working holiday makers to find work helping to bring in Australia’s fruit and vegetable harvests. Locations vary giving you an opportunity to work and travel around Australia.

Observational Work Experience

This work experience is a short-term, unpaid placement allowing participants, who are not yet job-ready, to build their workplace skills.

  • I am participating in an eligible employment service through Workforce Australia, Transition to Work, or Disability Employment Services

Opening Doors Program

The Australian Taxation Office's Opening Doors program is a 12-month non-ongoing program giving candidates experience in a large professional office environment. Roles may be filled across a variety of disciplines, including law, accounting, IT, HR, marketing and comms.

ParentsNext

ParentsNext supports parents and carers to take the next step after caring for children. The program aims to develop participants' skills, help arrange financial support for job preparation or other work-related expenses and connect participants to local support services.

Pre-employment support program (Back to Work)

The Pre-employment support program (PEP) provides eligible jobseekers with access to one-on-one support from a Jobseeker Officer, to understand their career goals, find available employment pathways and develop a plan for the future.

  • I identify with 1 or more of the following groups - aged 15-24 years, Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, people with disability, or long-term (over 52 weeks) unemployed
  • I need assistance with my career goals, including resume writing, interview skills and navigating the local job market

Ready for Work program

Ready for Work, part of the Skilling Queenslanders for Work initiative, offers courses of up to 6-8 weeks to assist job seekers to transition into the workforce by providing them with the practical skills they need to successfully find work.

  • I am a Queensland resident aged 15 years or over
  • I am long-term unemployed, and experience significant barriers to learning and employment
  • I am ineligible for Australian Government employment services, or remain unemployed after accessing these services

Self-employment assistance

Self-employment assistance helps you turn a business idea, or existing small business, into a success. Support includes workshops, coaching, small business training and financial assistance.

  • I need assistance to turn my business idea into a reality
  • I am not a undischarged bankrupt person
  • I am not in education and/or employment for more than 25 hours per week

Skilling Queenslanders for Work

Skilling Queenslanders for Work programs provide supported training opportunities to help disadvantaged job seekers gain the skills, qualifications and experience they need to enter and stay in the workforce. These programs are run by community-based organisations.

  • I am a Queensland resident, aged at least 15 years or over (and meet any other age requirements of an individual program)
  • I am long-term unemployed, and experience significant barriers to learning and employment
  • I am ineligible for Australian Government employment services, or remain unemployed after accessing these services
