Compliance and enforcement under the blue card system
Organisations and businesses regulated by the blue card system must understand and follow their obligations to help keep children safe.
These rules help create safer places for children and lower the risk of harm.
Organisations and people who run regulated child-related businesses must meet a range of obligations. This includes maintaining an up-to-date employee register.
We help keep Queensland children safe by:
- helping organisations and business operators understand their obligations under the blue card system
- making sure high-risk or restricted people, including suspended and cancelled cardholders, negative notice holders and disqualified people, are not working with children in Queensland
- taking compliance action where organisations do not meet their obligations
- working closely with the Queensland Police Service so we can act quickly to keep children safe.
Compliance powers
We check to make sure organisations follow the rules of the blue card system. We do this through monitoring, audits and investigations.
Organisations and individuals must provide information or documents when we lawfully request them, unless they have a reasonable excuse.
There are penalties for non-compliance.
