About the program

The Looking after Country Grant Program (LACGP) provides funding of up to $75,000 to First Nations communities to care for the environmental and cultural values of Country.

Through the program, First Nations organisations are funded to engage communities in planning for and delivering on-ground conservation work on Country. Looking after Country grants assist in building organisational capacity to care for Country through strengthened skills, knowledge, and partnerships.

Project activities funded through the program include, but are not limited to:

  • cultural site management
  • protected species monitoring and conservation
  • revegetation and habitat restoration
  • fire management
  • erosion control
  • inter-generational knowledge exchange
  • the development and implementation of Country management plans.
