Regrowth benefits report

You can use Biomaps to download a regrowth benefits report for an area of interest.

What’s in the report

The regrowth benefits report includes the following information:

  • A pre-clear vegetation map (to identify the vegetation types that are suitable to regrow in an area)
  • A remnant vegetation map including areas of high value regrowth (to show what is currently present in an area)
  • Details about species that may benefit from restored habitats in the area
  • Links to regrowth management guides relevant to the selected area

Regrowth management guides offer practical strategies for regrowing native forests, which can deliver many on-farm and environmental benefits. They focus on tackling problems like soil erosion, impacts from grazing and fire, enhancing biodiversity, and restoring degraded landscapes.

How to generate a regrowth benefits report

You can use Biomaps to explore information about specific locations and areas.

Biomaps is an online mapping system that provides access to published WildNet records and other biodiversity related spatial layers.

  1. Open Biomaps and zoom in to the area you're interested in.
  2. Use the Custom area report request function to select the ‘Regrowth Benefits Report’. The application will walk you through how to create your custom report.
  3. A PDF version of the report will be emailed to you.

Benefits of regrowing native forest

Regrowing native forests is especially valuable in places where land has been heavily cleared. These forests create food, shelter, and breeding spaces for native animals, helping them move freely across the landscape. Native forests support healthy wildlife populations and provide important ecosystem services which benefit both nature and people. On farms, regrowing native forests can deliver benefits such as reduced sediment flow into waterways, shade and shelter for livestock, and opportunities for income or financial benefits.
