Grain Sediment Reduction Program

The Grain Sediment Reduction Program provides $1.75 million in grants to support dry land broadacre grain and forage cropping producers in the Fitzroy region undertake on-ground work and practices that reduce sediment loss and improve farm productivity. Grants are provided on a co-contribution basis to successful recipients.

The program is funded through the Queensland Reef Water Quality Program and supported by the Department of Primary Industries (DPI).

Round 1 grants open

Eligible producers are invited to apply for grants up to $100,000, with successful landholders required to co-contribute either financially or in-kind towards the funding received as follows:

  • 25% for the design, construction or rebuild of contour banks

or

  • 50% for all other eligible activities.

Who can apply for a grant?

Dry land broadacre grain and forage cropping producers in the following local government areas:

  • Rockhampton Regional Council
  • Livingstone Shire Council
  • Gladstone Regional Council
  • Banana Shire Council
  • Central Highlands Regional Council
  • Isaac Regional Council
  • Woorabinda Aboriginal Shire Council.

What type of projects and activities are eligible?

Funding will be considered for cost-effective projects and activities that minimise sediment loss including work that:

  • repairs or establishes contour banks or erosion control structures
  • improves ground cover, drainage or soil health
  • improves crop management practices to reduce sediment loss.

Projects must be completed within 12 months of commencement. Grant recipients are required to provide a six-month milestone report and a detailed final report with invoices and other supporting documentation for grant acquittal, upon completion.

A DPI Grains Extension Officer will provide access to soil conservation technical advice and provide the estimated sediment savings from the proposed work which must be provided in the grant application.
