Before you light a fire, check for fire bans , restrictions or if a dangerous fire period has been declared in your area.
You could require a fire permit or be prohibited from lighting any type of fire.

Prepare or update your bushfire plan and bushfire kit
Talk to your family and neighbours about the plan
Make sure your house number is clearly displayed (for emergency service crews)
Mow your lawn regularly and remove dry grass, dead leaves and branches from your yard
Trim low-lying branches
Clear your gutters of leaves and twigs, install leaf guards to reduce maintenance
Move any flammable items such as wood piles, paper, boxes, crates and garden furniture well away from the house
Remove any flammable materials such as paint or engine oils from your shed or garage
Vent pipes on LPG cylinders away from the house.
