Tips for preparing your home before bushfire season

  • Prepare or update your bushfire plan and bushfire kit
  • Talk to your family and neighbours about the plan
  • Make sure your house number is clearly displayed (for emergency service crews)
  • Mow your lawn regularly and remove dry grass, dead leaves and branches from your yard
  • Trim low-lying branches
  • Clear your gutters of leaves and twigs, install leaf guards to reduce maintenance
  • Move any flammable items such as wood piles, paper, boxes, crates and garden furniture well away from the house
  • Remove any flammable materials such as paint or engine oils from your shed or garage
  • Vent pipes on LPG cylinders away from the house.
