Support groups

Government organisations and not-for-profit organisations that provide post-disaster emotional support, crisis hotlines and other assistance to the community are listed below.

The Public Trustee of Queensland

The Public Trustee of Queensland will provide a new Will and Enduring Power of Attorney free of charge to anyone affected by a disaster declared under the Queensland Disaster Management Act.  To access this offer please phone 1300 360 044 or email Clientenq@pt.qld.gov.au and advise of your circumstances.  For more information about Wills and Enduring Powers of Attorney please visit the Public Trustee website.

Some of the Public Trustee’s clients are the State’s most vulnerable people, and there is a responsibility to them during disasters.  The Public Trustee applies on some client’s behalf for appropriate assistance, and may also obtain quotes for repairs when the client is unable to do so.

Lifeline

Lifeline provides counselling and support, including crisis counselling to people affected by disaster.

Australian Red Cross

The Australian Red Cross supports and visits people in communities where disaster has occurred to check on their wellbeing and make referrals to other agencies.

Salvation Army

The Salvation Army provides catering services for people helping with disaster and community recovery.

Volunteering Queensland

Volunteering Queensland connects people, resources and organisations through volunteering projects and initiatives.

St. Vincent de Paul

St Vincent de Paul provides essential items such as blankets, toiletries, mattresses, new clothing, food, water and children's and babies' necessities.

Adventist Development and Relief Agency Australia Ltd (ADRA)

ADRA provides temporary accommodation for people who have lost their homes in a disaster.

RSPCA

RSPCA services include rescuing trapped animals, helping or injured animals, and technical and logistical support for emergency animal shelters.

Blue Care

Blue Care provides most community care services using its own staff and facilities.

St John Ambulance

St John Ambulance is a self-funded charitable organisation dedicated to helping people who are sick, distressed, suffering or in danger.
