Being suspended or excluded (expelled) from school during your apprenticeship or traineeship

Suspension

If you are suspended from school, you are still an enrolled student and can continue the work and training required for your school-based apprenticeship or traineeship. Contact your training organisation if your training usually occurs at school, to make other arrangements.

Exclusion (expulsion)

If you are excluded from school, you are no longer enrolled, so you can't continue with your apprenticeship or traineeship at that school.

Your options are:

  • re-enrolling at another school
  • changing your training contract to a full-time or part-time arrangement permanently.

Re-enrolment

Until you re-enrol at school, change your training contract to a full-time or part-time arrangement. Make sure you check any changes to your working conditions (including wages, hours and entitlements) while you are full-time or part-time.

Once you've re-enrolled at your new school, you must:

  • have the new school's support for the school-based arrangement
  • ensure that your work and/or training impacts on your school timetable
  • change your training contract back to school-based.
