Recognising elder abuse

Elder abuse can take many forms:

  • Forcing someone to change their will
  • Using threats and intimidation
  • Stealing or controlling money and finances
  • Other kinds of emotional, psychological, financial or sexual abuse, or neglect.

It’s any act within a relationship of trust which results in harm to an older person.

Recognising the signs of all types of elder abuse and calling out the abusive behaviours is important, because everyone in Queensland has the right to be safe and treated with dignity and respect.
