Pension and concessions

Age Pension

There are several things you need to check to identify if you qualify for the Age Pension, including your age and how long you have lived in Australia.

Check your eligibility and learn how to apply for the Age Pension.

How much you receive will depend on your current income and assets.

You may also be eligible for a pension or compensation payment from the Department of Veterans’ Affairs.

Concession cards

Seniors who hold a concession card are entitled to discounts across a broad range of goods and services. Reduce the cost of your regular household bills as well as lifestyle costs if you have one of the following cards:

You may be entitled to a concession or rebate on a number of things such as:

  • electricity and gas
  • car and boat registration
  • transport such as bus, train and ferry
  • pharmaceuticals and medical aids
  • entrance fees to galleries, museums and other forms of entertainment
  • long distance rail travel
  • solar hot water systems
  • home modifications.

If you are not eligible for one of the above cards, you may be able to get a Seniors Business Discount Card, giving you discounts at participating non-government business outlets.
