Budgeting for a baby

Having a baby is one of the most significant events that can happen in your life. It is a good idea to have your finances in order so you can concentrate on caring for, and raising your child.

Use a budget planner to see what you spend your money on and if you are spending more than you can afford.

Find information and advice on:

  • financial planning and budgets—general financial tips including how to find an adviser or counsellor and links to budgeting tools
  • family payments and support—read about the payments that may be available including the baby bonus and childcare assistance 
  • parental leave—find out about your entitlements for paid and unpaid parental leave
  • medical and dental costs—links to information on the public health system, rebates for medical expenses and private health insurance.
