Volunteer with Rural Fire Service
The Rural Fire Service (RFS) is the volunteer arm of the Queensland Fire and Rescue Service (QFRS). They operate in areas not covered by QFRS urban services.
Made up of 1500 rural fire brigades and approximately 34,000 volunteers across the state, the RFS perform several roles, including:
- fighting and preventing fires
- educating the community on fire prevention
- issuing fire permits
- helping the community during disasters.
Training
Members of rural brigades receive training that can assist in all areas of life. Brigade members learn:
- teamwork
- incident management
- leadership skills
- fire behaviour
- communication skills.
Joining RFS
There are many roles in the RFS, including:
- fire fighting and prevention
- community education
- administration
- incident management
- communication
- catering.
