Pathways to university

The most common pathway to university is through the completion of senior education in a Queensland school. Eligible Year 12 students will receive a Senior Certificate of Education and Overall Position (OP), which universities use to assess students’ eligibility for courses.

International students currently studying an Australian Year 12 qualification may be eligible to apply for university in this way.

Applications are made through the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC).

Other pathways

You may have completed previous study and have qualifications that could help you qualify for some university courses. These qualifications could include:

  • International Baccalaureate
  • Certificate III or IV
  • Diploma
  • Advance Diploma.

Document translation

Any existing qualifications or documents that may be needed as part of your tertiary application will need to be translated into English.

Quality assurance

Finding a quality education provider is easy with CRICOS.

The Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students or CRICOS, is the official Australian Government register of all education providers that offer courses to international students.

Search the CRICOS register or ask your education provider for a CRICOS course code for your preferred course.

Most universities and vocational education and training institutions have international student offices that specialise in providing information and support to overseas students.
