Financial help

Youth Allowance, Austudy and ABSTUDY—fortnightly payments provided by Centrelink for eligible apprentices and trainees.

Travel and accommodation subsidies—for apprentices and trainees who travel at least 100km (return trip) to attend training.

Travel and accommodation assistance for school-based apprentices and trainees (SATs)—for SATs who travel away from their home to attend training. Contact your school for further information.

Living Away From Home Allowance—help for those who:

  • need to move away from their parents’ or guardians’ home to take up or continue their apprenticeship or traineeship
  • need to attend extra training with another employer
  • are homeless.

Tools For Your Trade initiative—offers up to 5 tax-exempt payments to eligible apprentices or trainees in an area experiencing a skills shortage.

Support for Adult Australian Apprentices payment initiative—for eligible people over 25 starting their apprenticeship or traineeship.

Disability support—for apprentices, trainees and their employers.
