Apply for mediation to help solve a dispute before going to court by completing the online form.

What you should know
Mediation is a way to solve problems without expensive legal costs. It's voluntary, so everyone involved must agree to take part.
Our mediation service can be used for neighbourhood disputes.
Before you apply for mediation:
- try to solve the dispute yourself, if it's safe to do so
- be willing to meet with the other person to talk about the issue. If there's a court order stopping you from contacting the other person, you'll need to give us a copy of it when you apply.
A mediation session is usually between 2–4 hours.
The time it takes to go through the entire mediation process varies depending on the issue. On average, it can take between 2–6 weeks.
If you cannot apply online, contact a Dispute Resolution Centre.
Who can use this service
You can apply for mediation if:
- you want to solve a dispute
- you and the other person are willing to take part in mediation.
Don't use this service if:
- you don't want to meet with the other person

How to apply for mediation
Follow these steps to apply for mediation.
Step 1: Gather your information
You’ll need:
- the name and contact details of the other person
- details about the problem
- a copy of any court order stopping you from contacting the other person (if this applies).
Step 2: Fill in the online form
Complete the online form.
Step 3: Receive the outcome
Your application will be assessed. You'll be notified of the outcome and a mediation session will be set up that suits everyone involved.
How long it takes
Processing time begins when a completed application is received.
Standard applications: up to 10 business days
How much it costs
Mediation is free in most cases.
