More people are getting the flu every year. Nearly 100,000 Queenslanders got it last year, and more than 7,000 people ended up in hospital. Most of those weren’t vaccinated.

Flu season is nearly here – book you and your family in early. Queenslanders aged 6 months and older can get their free flu vaccine any time from 1 March to 30 September 2026. You don’t need a Medicare card.

Nasal spray flu vaccination for children

If your child is between 2 and 5 year old (before they turn 6), they can now get the free flu vaccine as a nasal spray. It’s quick and just as effective as having the injection - but it doesn’t hurt!

Where to get vaccinated

Book your free flu vaccine with your GP, pharmacist, community clinic or another vaccination provider. The best time to get vaccinated is before the flu season peaks.
