Satellite hospitals

The Satellite Hospital Program (SHP) will deliver 7 new facilities to support public healthcare delivery in southeast Queensland.

Each satellite hospital will have a Minor Injury and Illness Clinic (MIIC) with medical imaging and diagnostic services.

The MIIC can be accessed for the treatment of walk in, urgent care conditions, such as simple fractures, simple infections and allergies, sprains, strains and burns.

The hospitals will offer additional referral-based outpatient services, such as mental health support, renal dialysis and a range of medical and allied health specialty clinics, based on the specific needs of their local communities.

Outpatient services are those that can be delivered without the need to be admitted to a hospital.

Satellite hospitals have been built in major growth areas to allow people to access walk in, urgent care healthcare services in a purpose-built community setting, closer to home, without having to travel to a hospital emergency department.

Locations and anticipated opening dates

Each site will be co-named with a locally relevant traditional name (if it doesn't already use one), following consultation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
