Training record

The training record is your learning diary which documents your progress and achievement of competencies listed in your training plan.

It allows you and others to monitor your progress.

The training record:

  • may be kept in any format that the training organisation considers appropriate
  • corresponds to the competencies (skills, knowledge) in your training plan.

Responsibilities

You are responsible for:

  • looking after your training record
  • regularly updating it with completed training details
  • signing off completion of workplace tasks when you can competently do them
  • taking it with you when switching to a new employer.

Your employer's responsibilities

Your employer must inspect your training record regularly (at least every 3 months) and sign off on the skills you've become competent in since the last inspection.

Your training organisation's responsibilities

Your training organisation is responsible for:

  • giving you a training record within 14 days of the training plan being signed
  • updating the training record regularly (at least every 3 months)
  • signing off competencies when you can demonstrate these skills on and off the job
  • immediately resolving any issues that may be hindering progress.

Inspecting the training record

We regularly check training records to make sure:

  • they are up to date
  • you are being properly trained.
