Legal options and assistance

LawRight (formerly QPILCH) provides free legal advice and assistance to people with mental illness, their families and anyone dealing with an issue relating to mental health law.

Community and Health Justice Partnerships provides support through collaboration with health and community workers to resolve complex problems of clients including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, refugees, and people experiencing domestic violence, mental illness or homelessness.

Legal Aid Queensland provides legal information, advice and representation to disadvantaged Queenslanders. It has a mental health unit.

Queensland Advocacy Incorporated (QAI) Mental Health Legal Service provides information, referrals, advice and advocacy for individuals receiving involuntary treatment under the Mental Health Act 2016 (QLD), and can provide support for matters before the Mental Health Review Tribunal.

Independent Patient Rights Advisers provide advice to patients, and their families, carers and support people, about their rights while receiving involuntary mental health treatment under the Mental Health Act 2016.

Youth Advocacy Centre provides confidential free legal and welfare assistance to young people under 17 who live in and around Brisbane. It may provide limited phone support to young people living outside Brisbane.

The Advocacy and Support Centre (TASC) provides legal representation, advice and support to residents in south west Queensland who have a mental illness, intellectual disability or acquired brain injury.
