New special school for Northern Gold Coast underway
Construction is underway on a new special school for Coomera-Pimpama area, with the Queensland Government delivering the project as part of its investment in nine new special schools, out of 22 new schools being delivered across the state.
The new school will support families in the northern Gold Coast growth corridor, meeting high demand for special schooling and providing much-needed enrolment relief for existing schools.
Due to open in 2028, the new school will have initial capacity for 162 students from Prep to Year 6.
Stage 1 will include 27 learning spaces, featuring specialist learning areas, administration facilities, a multi-purpose hall, outdoor learning spaces, student and staff amenities, a resource centre, canteen, play spaces, a car park and a bus pick-up and drop-off zone.

James Prattent is the Queensland State Manager for ADCO Constructions and said the project would deliver high-quality, purpose-built facilities to support students, staff and families for years to come.
“This is an important new special school for the Coomera-Pimpama community,” James said.
“This project will create contemporary, inclusive learning environments designed to support the diverse needs of students and provide a safe, functional and welcoming school for families and staff.”
Demand for places in Queensland special schools has increased by 47 per cent since 2019, making the Coomera-Pimpama new Special School more important than ever in planning for Queensland’s future.
The new special school will provide modern, purpose-built facilities designed to support students’ learning, development and wellbeing, while delivering education choice for parents.
Coomera State Special School Principal Kate Hucker said growing enrolments across the northern Gold Coast highlighted the need for additional special schooling in the area.
“We have seen strong and sustained growth in demand for special schooling in this region, reflecting the rapid growth of local communities and the increasing need for specialist education options close to home,” Ms Hucker said.
“A new special school at Coomera-Pimpama will help meet that demand and give more families access to the tailored support, specialised learning environments and inclusive opportunities their children need to thrive.”
The new special school will adjoin Coomera Springs State School on Old Coach Road.
The Queensland Government is investing $2.3 billion to deliver 22 new schools across the State, giving families the choice about the education setting that best meets their child’s needs and provides access to quality special school facilities in their local communities.
