The Government Response to the Inquiry has been tabled and is available on the Parliamentary Health, Environment and Innovation Committee webpage. To support the Government Response, the Waste Reduction and Recycling (Strengthening the Container Refund Scheme) Amendment Bill 2026 was introduced to Parliament on 26 March 2026.
On 15 September 2026 the Bill was passed by the Queensland Parliament. The Bill has received royal assent and the Waste Reduction and Recycling (Strengthening the Container Refund Scheme) Amendment Act 2026 will commence on a date to be fixed by proclamation.
The Queensland Government is now seeking feedback on supporting regulatory amendments. Stakeholder consultation on the draft Waste Reduction and Recycling (Strengthening the Container Refund Scheme) Amendment Regulation 2026 is now open and will close at 5pm on Wednesday 21 October 2026.
