Offline record requirements

When people buy and sell animals, they may move animals from Online account NAKL licence types to offline NAKL licences, or vice versa, each of which require different reporting and record keeping obligations for the sale and movement of animals.

Online Standard, Specialised and Advanced licence holders are no longer required to provide or fill out movement advices. Instead they can record the sale in their online record book, which holds the relevant information about which animals they have bought and sold.

Offline NAKL holders must complete paper equivalent records, even if they buy/sell/trade with native animal keeping licence holders. In addition the offline NAKL will be required to submit copies of their transactions and records on a regular basis.

Only buy native wildlife from licensed sellers

Before you buy check the following:

  • ask the seller for a copy of their licence
  • check the expiry date to make sure it’s still current.
  • only purchase native animals from a swap or marketplace website that’s regulated.

If you buy a native animal from an unlicensed seller, the animal you purchase could be seized.
