The Gunggandji-Mandingalbay Yidinji Land and Sea Rangers look after Country within the Gunggandji-Mandingalbay Yidinji PPBC Trustee Area near Yarrabah, which is mostly within the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area, and adjacent sea country within the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area.

Priority work:

  • improving condition and extent of woody and non-woody vegetation, and protecting open sclerophyll woodlands from rainforest encroachment
  • controlling proliferation of weeds and feral pests and restoring riverbanks with revegetation
  • implementing a Cultural Fire Management Plan
  • monitoring and protecting turtle nests to enhance survival of species
  • removing marine debris along the coastline and camping areas in partnership with Tangaroa Blue and contributing data to the national data base
  • recording, managing and protecting important cultural sites
  • developing a junior ranger program and activities in partnership with Yarrabah State School.
