The Mamu Rangers play an important role in caring for Mamu country, which lies within the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area surrounding Innisfail.

Their priorities include:

  • monitoring water quality and developing a water plan for major rivers, in partnership with Terrain NRM
  • control and monitoring of invasive pest species, including continuing work on Koster’s curse, an invasive weed within Wooroonooran National Park
  • mapping, monitoring and managing cultural sites such as scarred trees and bora grounds
  • undertaking visitor management and interpretation in partnership with Mamu Tropical Skywalk
  • delivering educational, youth engagement activities with local schools
  • facilitating transfer of traditional knowledge from Elders to future generations.
