Djaa Narawi Rangers are based in Hervey Bay and work to care for the BNTAC native title determined land, sea and freshwater country around the Fraser Coast and Wide Bay region, which extends from Burrum Heads to Rainbow Beach and includes freshwater of the Mary River.

Their work priorities include:

  • preservation and transfer of traditional knowledge
  • delivering youth and community engagement activities
  • recording and managing cultural sites
  • controlling feral animals and weeds, and managing with fire
  • managing and monitoring wetlands, seagrass, birds, turtles, dugong and marine mammals
  • partnering with QPWS to manage sea country, in particular visitor behaviour and impacts.
