The Jawajawa rangers care for their traditional country around Gordonvale, within the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area.

Their priorities are:

  • maintaining and expanding the cultural and other knowledge systems from collected field data and other sources
  • monitoring of impacts of management activities such as cultural burns, pest plant and animal control on the health of Country
  • identifying suitable sites and propagation techniques for re-establishment of key bush food species such as yabby weed
  • re-establishing cultural fish traps in the Mulgrave River
  • undertaking weed surveys and control, including Siam weed, miconia and blue thunbergia along the Gillies Range and Little Mulgrave area.
