The Yirrganydji Land and Sea rangers care for the cultural values of Yirrganydji country between Cairns and Port Douglas, for the benefit of current and future generations. Key activities include:

  • Management of sea country in accordance with the Yirrkanji Sea Country plan, through sea patrols, reef monitoring,  beach clean-ups and documenting of fish kills and illegal fishing and poaching activities
  • Fire management, protection of threatened species and their habitats, pest plant and feral animal management, and cultural heritage management
  • Recording and passing on of traditional knowledge through visits to country and back to country camps
  • Together with partner organisations, delivery of community education programs aimed at increasing understanding about threats to sea country and measures to avoid or minimise these threats.
