Description

  • Development of a new, multi-seam, open-cut coal mine which will occur as a continuation of the existing Baralaba North Mine.

Key features

  • Open cut coal mine extracting up to 2.5 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) of run-of-mine (ROM) coal.
  • Conventional truck and shovel methods.
  • Conventional coal handling and preparation plant and conveyor systems.
  • Haul road and ancillary access tracks.
  • Water management infrastructure; including multiple mine water dams, sediment dams and clean water dams.
  • A realignment of approximately 4.5km of the Moura—Baralaba Road.
  • A new power line and associated upgrades to Powerlink’s Baralaba Substation.
  • An external supply of water to the mine during extended dry periods from the Dawson Valley Scheme; groundwater bores or; the Benleith Water Scheme.
  • Support infrastructure.

Environmental impact statement (EIS)

The EIS assessment report was issued to the proponent on 2 March 2026 in accordance with section 60 of the Environmental Protection Act 1994 (EP Act). The EIS process under Chapter 3, Part 1 of the EP Act is now completed.
