Step 1: Check if you're eligible

Use our eligibility checker to see if you're eligible for free or reduced-cost training in Queensland.

Training providers step through the details to confirm your eligibility, but this checker gives you a good idea of what to expect.

Step 2: Explore funded courses

Use the Queensland Skills Gateway to find a free or reduced-cost course for you.

Filter your course search by course type, qualification level or the funding available.

Step 3: Contact a training provider

To get started, you'll need to choose a training provider approved to deliver the funded course you want to do. In Queensland, these providers are known as Skills Assure Suppliers.

Find training providers in course search results on the Queensland Skills Gateway, or YourCareer.

How does free and reduced-cost training work?

The Queensland Government pays all or part of your training course fees for you.

Funds go straight to your training provider, so you can focus on your training.

Free and reduced-cost training is available for priority qualifications across a wide range of industries.

Apprenticeships work for everyone

Apprenticeships and traineeships combine work with study. Individuals benefit from earning while they learn and employers benefit from passing their valuable skills on.

Changes to funded programs

From 1 July 2025, we introduced funded training programs that better align with your career stage—Career Start (for job seekers) and Career Boost (for workers).

If you started your training course under one of our previously funded programs—Certificate 3 Guarantee, Higher Level Skills or User Choice (for apprentices and trainees)—we have you covered. These programs will be phased out gradually, allowing you to complete your qualification or skill set. Read more about how these changes may impact you.

Choose carefully

Choosing the right course and training provider is a big deal.

Only training providers that meet certain standards can deliver free and reduced-cost training in Queensland. Look out for the Skills Assure identifier.
