Start probation

Probation is a trial period at the beginning of your apprenticeship or traineeship which allows you and your employer to work together before deciding whether you want to continue.

Your apprenticeship or traineeship probation is separate from your employment probation.

Duration

Probation lasts 90 days for apprenticeships and 30–90 days for traineeships. This is the same for school-based apprenticeships and traineeships.

Visit the Queensland Training Information Service (QTIS) website to confirm the length of probation for your chosen apprenticeship or traineeship.

When probation begins

It begins on the day the apprenticeship or traineeship starts, not when the paperwork is signed.

Your apprenticeship or traineeship starts on the date that you and your employer agree to start.
