COAL was formed in 1994 to work towards the end of discrimination against lesbians. COAL lobbies the Australian Commonwealth and State Governments to remove discrimination against lesbians. COAL is Australia's national lesbian advocacy organisation and is the only United Nations Accredited lesbian non Government Organisation. COAL works with the U.N. Convention to Eliminate all forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) and were active at the 4th World Conference on Women, Beijing, 1995. COAL has produced training resources and research papers which may be of interest to improve knowledge and understanding of the issues that lesbians face.
