Aboriginal Hostels Limited provides temporary accommodation, and access to hospitals and schools, to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Each night over 3,000 places are available Australia wide, providing meals and beds in safe surroundings for people in the following categories: aged, homeless, medical transient (including renal dialysis), tertiary or secondary students, transient or people in substance use rehabilitation. Hostels are managed by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People, with a recruitment and career development policy contributing to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people comprising 82 per cent of all company staff, one of the largest single employers of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Australia. AHL's statement of purpose is to "ensure appropriate temporary accommodation assists Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to improve their standard of living and achieve health, educational and employment-related goals."
