Bulk-billing services
Bulk-billing is a service that health professionals such as doctors, specialists, optometrists, dentists and other allied health practitioners can choose to offer.
If a health professional chooses to ‘bulk-bill’ and you hold a Medicare card, your visit is free because the entire cost of treatment is paid by Medicare.
Not all health professionals bulk-bill, and some only bulk-bill certain patients, such as patients who hold a concession or health care card. It is important to check before your consultation.
If they do not bulk-bill you will need to pay up-front. You can claim some money back through Medicare once you have paid.
Visit Medicare for more information, or the Australian Government’s site for bulk-billing and claiming options.
