A monitoring network has been established within the Western Downs region to assess air quality in an area of intensive coal seam gas (CSG) production. Air monitoring stations are located at Hopeland, Miles Airport, Condamine, Burncluith and Tara region. These monitoring stations are situated on properties near CSG infrastructure such as gas processing facilities and active gas wells.
This monitoring network is managed by the CSIRO’s Gas Industry Social and Environmental Research Alliance (GISERA) as part of the Surat Basin Air Quality study. Environmental consultants operate the monitoring network on behalf of CSIRO/GISERA. Method and data validation for the network is overseen by CSIRO.
Hopeland
Monitoring at Hopeland began in February 2015 to assess air quality in close proximity to an area of intensive coal seam gas (CSG) production run by Origin Energy. This monitoring station is managed by CSIRO’s GISERA as part of the Surat Basin Air Quality study. Environmental consultants operate the monitoring network on behalf of CSIRO/GISERA. Method and data validation is overseen by CSIRO.

Miles Airport
Monitoring at Miles Airport began in July 2015 to assess air quality in close proximity to an area of intensive coal seam gas (CSG) production run by Origin Energy. This monitoring station is managed by CSIRO’s GISERA as part of the Surat Basin Air Quality study. Environmental consultants operate the monitoring network on behalf of CSIRO/GISERA. Method and data validation is overseen by CSIRO.

Burncluith
Monitoring at Burncluith began in June 2016 and is located on rural property approximately 10-20 km from large CSG sources. This monitoring station is managed by CSIRO’s GISERA as part of the Surat Basin Air Quality study. Environmental consultants and CSIRO operate the monitoring network on behalf of GISERA. Method and data validation is overseen by CSIRO.

Tara Region
Monitoring in the Tara region began in June 2016 and is located on rural property approximately 10-20 km from large CSG sources. This monitoring station is managed by CSIRO’s GISERA as part of the Surat Basin Air Quality study. Environmental consultants operate the monitoring network on behalf of CSIRO/GISERA.
