Logan City Demolitions & Recycling (LCDR) have been awarded the contract to demolish four warehouses totaling over 10,000 m2 (H, J, M, N). The warehouses, once home to QUBE Ports (see image), have been vacant since early 2021 when QUBE Ports relocated to the Port of Brisbane.

Economic Development Queensland (EDQ) sought independent structural advice on the stability and safety of repurposing these buildings. The findings showed that while five of the warehouses could be used in the future, the four identified were recommended for timely demolition.

LCDR will mobilise to site in late August and start demolition in September. Works will continue through to November and include conversion of the footprint of warehouse M and N, on the corner of Bincote Street and MacArthur Avenue, into approximately 220 free new car parks to support our new event spaces in the Maritime Green Park. The footprint of warehouses H and J will provide new open hardstand to support pop-events.

During the demolition there will be periods of footpath closures with signed changes to pedestrian movements along MacArthur Avenue. Updates will be provided as these dates are scheduled.

LCDR have been in operation for over 40 years and are committed to environmentally focused demolition, striving to always achieve a recycling margin of at least 85% per site by reducing, reusing, or recycling materials.

So committed to conserving resources and ecologically sustainable development, LCDR started its own recycling facility in Logan in February 2021. At the facility the team crush, re-purpose and re-use concrete products, bricks, roof tiles etc. and re-sell suitable material back to the market.

LCDR are the first demolisher in South East Queensland to have their own private concrete facility. They plan to recycle their own construction and demolition waste, increasing their current 85% recycling rate to 95%.

Works that had closed the pedestrian access to the Riverwalk behind the tennis courts in Dock D are now complete and the path is open.

Residents may notice temporary fencing has been installed behind Dock D, Passenger Zone 4. This fencing is to accommodate the construction of a new pedestrian link through the existing garden bed (see plan below).

The four-metre-wide pedestrian link will feature recycled timber posts and festoon lighting, and will provide quicker access to, and out of, the Passenger Zone 4 (pick-up/drop). The link will also provide easy access to The Shed and Eat Street entrances.

Works on the pedestrian link are expected to be complete by late September 2022.

Further changes have been made to the timing of staged roadworks around the MacArthur Avenue, Remora Road and Hercules Street intersection.

The amended dates are as follows:

Stage 1: Monday 11 July - Friday 19 August 2022 (dayworks) – excluding Sunday.

Stage 2: Monday 22 August 2022 - Friday 2 September 2022 (nightworks)

Changes have been made to the timing of staged roadworks around the MacArthur Avenue, Remora Road and Hercules Street intersection. The delays are due to BMD finding unknown service cables that needed to be removed, and recent inclement weather.

The amended dates are as follows:

Stage 1: Monday 11 July - Friday 5 August 2022 (dayworks) – excluding Sunday.

Stage 2: Monday 8 August 2022 - Friday 19 August 2022 (nightworks)

BMD will be undertaking roadworks around the MacArthur Avenue, Remora Road and Hercules Street intersection during July for the purposes of upgrading underground services. The works will be completed in two stages starting Monday 11 July.

BMD will begin sewer construction works on Angora Road from 27 June. The works will be in place for approximately 2.5 weeks, weather permitting.

The transformation of Northshore from a former port area into a vibrant mixed-use urban precinct continues with the completion of an $18 million package of new roads, cycle tracks and footpaths.

Starting in early July 2021, the industrial road form of the east end of MacArthur Avenue has been transformed into an urban boulevard framed with street trees, separated cycle tracks and wide footpaths, perfect for those keen to walk, run, cycle or scooter around the precinct.

The construction of three new roads – Cedar, Barcham and Karakul – opens new land supply for development, attracting further private sector investment in the precinct in the lead up to the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Over 600 metres of cycle tracks and just under two kilometres of footpaths will encourage and support active movement across Northshore. Stormwater and utilities upgrades and subtropical urban landscaping at the eastern end of Northshore have also been delivered. The new roads also provide more on-street carparking in the area.

This is a significant achievement under difficult times in the construction industry. The impacts of COVID on contractors and sub-contractors, rising construction costs and over seven weeks of rain delays in 2022 alone provided major challenges to the works program and budget.

EDQ appreciates the patience exhibited by residents, occupiers and road users during these works.

Tomkins will be erecting a tower crane on Saturday 4 June, the installation is expected to take one day, with preparations starting the day prior.

The crane is necessary to progress the next stage of construction work on the Rivello Hamilton project.

Wharf Street will be partly closed to pedestrians with Wharf Street and MacArthur Avenue restricted and operating under traffic management during the works.

The pop-up park at the end of Wharf Street to be closed during these activities as an added safety measure.
