Domestic and family violence media guide

The Domestic and family violence media guide (PDF) (or DOCX) was developed to assist the media with responsible and evidence-based reporting on domestic and family violence (DFV) incidents in Queensland.

The Queensland Government is currently working on a range of reforms in response to the Women’s Safety and Justice Taskforce (the Taskforce) first report Hear her voice—Report One—Addressing coercive control and domestic and family violence in Queensland (Report One), including creating an offence of coercive control.

Report One includes a recommendation to review and update the current DFV media guide to include information regarding coercive control, current laws in Queensland, trauma-informed reporting and reporting on people from diverse communities.

The DFV media guide on this page is the current version, which we are reviewing. A new version will be uploaded to this page following completion of the review.
