SUMMARY:Building Youth Communities Through Music and Skateboarding
ORGANIZER;CN=SCHEMA Collective:MAILTO:hello@schemacollective.org
LOCATION:Bracken Ridge Skate Plaza\, 523 Telegraph Rd\,Fitzgibbon QLD
DESCRIPTION:Katie Fraser (a young person\, age 19) will work with the SCHEMA Collective INC (aka SCHEMA) on the planning and hosting of two all-ages\, accessible and engaging music and skateboarding community events. This project aims to promote community wellbeing through bolstering youth connection as a protective factor against social isolation\, mental ill health\, and substance use. These events will showcase local talent\, empower emerging community leaders\, and promote key community support organisations and services. Both events will be conducted at local skateparks on Saturday afternoons (1-5pm). Three local youth bands will deliver live performances\, along with skateboarding demonstrations by young local skaters and mentors. This platform enables emerging community leaders to build confidence\, networks\, and peer connections through their creative expression. This atmosphere provides a platform for young voices to express community needs in a safe and inclusive environment. Invited partners will host fun and interactive stalls\, e.g. Kids Helpline with badge-making. The integration of these partners increases the visibility and accessibility of support pathways for young attendees. It also invites informal conversations around mental health and AOD\, which reduces stigma and is a protective factor against mental ill health and AOD abuse. This event is Hosted by A Queensland Youth Week Grant recipient.
