If you live in out-of-home care, it can be difficult to keep track of things like personal mementos, photos, records and documents that make up your life story.
kicbox is a private, digital memory box that keeps everything safe and in one place. It also provides a more convenient way for you to communicate and share information with your Child Safety team.
The Department of Child Safety, Youth and Women designed the app in collaboration with young people living in out-of-home care and their care teams.
From mid-March 2018, kicbox will be available in all regions across Queensland. When that happens, your Child Safety team will create a kicbox account for you.
They will upload your information, photos and documents into your account so you can access them throughout your time in out-of-home care.
If you are aged 12 and above, your Child Safety team will also give you access to add items to your kicbox account yourself.
How it works
kicbox includes 4 main categories:
- My life helps you to record your journey in care by uploading photos, describing particular events and recording your thoughts and feelings.
- My future helps you to visualise your life goals through words and images.
- Important documents provides a single place for storing all your documents, such as your birth certificate, certificate of Aboriginality, or school reports.
- Contact and support lets you connect with your Child Safety Officer by sending secure and private messages.
How to set it up
Your Child Safety team will help you get started.
Once you have confirmed that you would like to access kicbox, they will send you an email invitation with a link to set up your kicbox username and password.
