The information on this page relates to light vehicles and motorcycles only. A light motor vehicle weighs 4.5 tonnes or less—different rules apply if you have a different type of vehicle or it weighs more than 4.5 tonnes.

  1. Do all of the registered operators have a Queensland driver licence, industry authority, adult proof of age card, photo identification card or Customer Reference Number (CRN) with the Department of Transport and Main Roads?

  6. Get a Queensland Safety Certificate from an Approved Inspection Station (e.g. local mechanic).

  7. Has your vehicle been written off on the Personal Properties Securities Register (PPSR)?
    • Yes
    • No
  8. Is your vehicle currently unregistered?
    • Yes
    • No
  9. Contact a Compulsory Third party (CTP) insurance provider to get a CTP insurance certificate. You need to carry the certificate in your vehicle when you are driving to get a safety certificate, gas certificate, written off vehicle inspection, modification plate (if any of these are required) then onto a transport and motoring service centre to register it.

    Note: If you are towing your vehicle on a trailer you do not need to pre-purchase CTP insurance. You can purchase CTP insurance from us when you come to register your vehicle.

    Get a Queensland Safety Certificate from an Approved Inspection Station (e.g. local mechanic).

  10. Has your vehicle been written off on the Personal Properties Securities Register (PPSR)?

  11. If your vehicle is currently registered in Queensland you need to complete a transfer of registration.

    Contact the Queensland Inspection Service to get a written off vehicle inspection.

  12. Does your vehicle have a gas system or fittings?
    • Yes
    • No
  13. Does your vehicle have a gas system or fittings?
    • Yes
    • No
  14. Get a gas inspection certificate from a Queensland authorised gas examiner/installer.

  15. Has your vehicle been modified?
    • Yes
    • No
  16. Has your vehicle been modified?
    • Yes
    • No
  17. Find out if you need a modification plate and certificate from an approved person. Contact us if you need help finding one.

    Bring your documents and vehicle to a transport and motoring customer service centre. If you live in a rural area, you can visit a QGAP office, Magistrates Court or local police station that provides registration services – please call to confirm before visiting.
