How to make a BPAY payment

To pay your registration by BPAY, please use your bank’s internet or phone banking service.

  • You can BPAY from any savings, cheque, debit or transaction account.
  • You cannot BPAY your registration from a credit card.
    • If you’d like to pay with a credit card, you can renew your registration using our online service.
    • We accept Visa and MasterCard credit or debit cards and American Express. A card surcharge applies.

Please note: Transport and Main Roads cannot take payments over the phone.

Biller Code and Reference numbers

When making a registration payment by BPAY you need 3 things:

  1. Biller Code
    • 48173 is the Biller Code to use for all registration renewals
  2. Reference number
    • Look for the 14-digit 'Ref:' number on your renewal notice
    • Each registration has a unique payment reference number
    • The reference number doesn’t change each time you renew your registration
  3. Amount due
    • The amount you need to pay depends on the registration term you choose and if you pay on time or after the due date.
    • Please make sure you use the correct amount due:
      • ON or BEFORE due date
        Pay the amount due for the term of your choice (for example, 6 or 12 months)
      • AFTER due date
        Pay the amount due for the term of your choice (for example, 6 or 12 months)
        Note: This amount includes a late payment fee

Duplicate payments and payments using incorrect details

If a payment is rejected because more than one payment has been made, an incorrect reference number is used or the payment amount is incorrect (for example, part payments), the funds will be returned to the bank account they came from.

Please note:

  • Once we have returned the payment, it can take 5-10 business days for the funds to appear in your account.
  • If your payment is returned, your registration will not be renewed until you make another BPAY payment using the correct details or pay another way.

I didn't get the renewal notice

We send registration renewal notices approximately 6 weeks before your due date.

Emailed notices

If you didn’t get your renewal email with your payment details, you can:

  • Renew your registration online
    Pay online using a credit or debit card – a card surcharge applies.
    (choose the 'Pay using your registration number' option)

  • OR

  • Find your BPAY details
    Log in to my account to view a copy of your renewal notice.
    (choose the 'e-notice and e-reminder history' option from the dropdown list)

    Note: This option is only available for emailed notices (not available for posted notices or for organisations).

If your email could not be delivered to you successfully (for example, if your mailbox was full), we automatically send a physical copy of the renewal notice to your postal address.

Posted notices

If you didn’t receive your latest renewal notice in the mail, you can use a previous notice for the same registration in your name—your BPAY details don’t change. If you need a copy of your notice, you can message us or call 13 23 80 and we’ll arrange for it to be posted.

How long do BPAY payments take?

Your BPAY payment may take a few business days to reach us, depending on your bank.

Make sure you complete your BPAY payment before 11pm (Queensland time) on the due date to avoid being charged a late payment fee.

Note: Some banking systems are not on the same time zone as Queensland. This means that if you pay after 11pm Queensland time, your bank may record the payment date as the next day.

Payment will be backdated once received and your registration status will be updated. We recommend you carry proof of payment.

If your payment is received after the due date, your registration term may be adjusted after the late fee is applied.

It is important that your registration remains current as it is an offence to drive an unregistered vehicle.

You can use our online service to check your registration status or download the QLD Rego Check app for free from the App Store or Google Play.

Registrations with conditions before you can pay

Vehicles that require a certificate of inspection

Heavy vehicles and some other vehicles (for example, those used for ride share) need regular inspections.

If your vehicle requires a certificate of inspection, a current certificate must be recorded with us before you can renew your registration. Your renewal notice will show if this is needed.

Once your certificate is recorded with us, you can pay by BPAY using:

  • Biller Code:  48173
  • Reference number: Look for the 14-digit 'Ref:' number shown in the online payment section of your renewal notice.
  • Amount due: The amount due for the term of your choice (for example, 6 or 12 months)

Registration transfers that aren't finalised

Transferring registration online is a 2-step process:

Step 1: The seller transfers the registration out of their name.  
Step 2: The buyer finalises the transfer and pays any fees and duty that apply.

If you haven’t completed Step 2 to finalise the transfer, you won’t be able to renew the registration.

You may be able to complete the transfer online. When transferring, you can pay your registration renewal along with any transfer fees that apply by credit card (a surcharge applies). Or, after you have completed the transfer, you can pay by BPAY using the details on your renewal notice.

Note: If the registration is expired, you'll need to pay for the renewal as part of the transfer (or cancel and register the vehicle at a later date).
