Pick-up and drop-off areas

Passenger pick-up and drop-off areas, and access to special purpose lanes vary across taxi, limousine and ride-booking services.

It’s important for passengers to understand these rules and to be mindful of your driver’s obligations when booking your pick-up location.

Taxi ranks

Taxi ranks cannot be used by ride-booking for passenger pick up or set down.

Use of transit lanes

Taxis and limousines are permitted to use special purpose lanes (for example, bus lanes and transit lanes) in certain circumstances. A taxi or limousine can stop on a clearway if they are dropping off or picking up passengers.

Like other motorists, ride-booking vehicles are not permitted to use special purpose lanes, unless they are entering/exiting a road, overtaking a vehicle turning right, or avoiding an obstruction. They are permitted to use T2 transit lanes if the vehicle is carrying 2 or more people and T3 transit lanes if the vehicle is carrying 3 or more people.

Taxis have exclusive access to taxi zones (or ranks) to pick up or wait for passengers.

Airports

Ride-booking passengers may be picked up from Queensland airports provided the ride-booking service has been pre-booked and is not soliciting for business.
