Disability parking reforms to commence soon

On 14 July 2020, the Queensland Parliament passed legislation that means Queenslanders diagnosed as legally blind will be eligible for a disability parking permit.

The new laws come into effect on 31 August 2020. From this date, Queenslanders who are legally blind will be able to apply for a permit under the scheme, on a permanent or temporary basis.

To ensure disability parking spaces are kept available for those who need them most, the new laws will also double the fine for drivers who illegally use disability parking spaces, an increase to $533.
