Class 1 oversize and overmass permits are now being issued for 12 months

Operators can now apply to the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) for Class 1 oversize and overmass permits with an increased duration of 12 months.

TMR has worked hard behind the scenes to improve systems and processes to enable the permit duration to be extended to 12 months.

This initiative is one of many recently implemented by TMR and underpins TMR’s commitment to supporting  the national Oversize and overmass (OSOM) review recommendations agreed by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development in April 2019.

If you operate a Class 1 OSOM vehicle there is no change to the way you apply for Class 1 permits or how your permits will be issued. TMR will now automatically provide operators 12-month permit durations for the TMR road network.

To assist operators in complying with conditions and restrictions, TMR has developed a Class 1 OSOM load carrying vehicle Bridge and Culvert Restrictions map.

This tool allows operators to quickly identify bridge and culvert restrictions for Class 1 OSOM load carrying vehicles and is provided in addition to the Conditions of Operations database currently available.

In addition, TMR has also implemented email push notifications for changes to bridge and culvert conditions and restrictions for Class 1 OSOM load carrying vehicles.

This effectively means operators will now receive email notifications directly to their nominated email address when there are changes to bridge and culvert conditions and restrictions.

Operators are encouraged to review the email addresses attached to their existing permits and contact TMR if they need to be updated.
