Medical Aids Subsidy Scheme

We can help you with the cost of buying medical aids and equipment so you can live an independent life in your own home.

The Medical Aids Subsidy Scheme subsidises a range of aids and equipment such as:

  • communication aids
  • continence aids
  • daily-living aids
  • home oxygen
  • medical grade footwear
  • mobility aids
  • orthoses.

The scheme also administers the

  • Spectacle Supply Scheme
  • Cystic Fibrosis Program.

You may be eligible to receive subsidy funding assistance if all of the below apply:

  • you are a permanent resident of Queensland
  • you have a permanent and stabilised condition or disability
  • you hold 1 of the following cards:
    • Centrelink Pensioner Concession Card or Health Care Card
    • Department of Veterans' Affairs Pensioner Concession Card
    • Queensland Government Seniors Card.

To apply for assistance, you will need to arrange a clinical assessment by an approved health care provider. The health care provider authorised to prescribe particular aids and equipment may vary depending on the type of aids and equipment needed.

Spectacle Supply Scheme

You may be eligible for free prescription spectacles through the Spectacle Supply Scheme. You will need a referral from your optometrist or ophthalmologist to access the scheme.

Smoke Alarm Subsidy Scheme

If you are deaf or have a hearing impairment, you may get a subsidy towards purchasing specialised smoke alarms for your home.

Australian Government support

Continence Aids Payment Scheme

If you require continence products, the Australian Government may provide funding.
