Workshops for community coaches and volunteers

The Building Active Communities Workshop program provides free workshops to increase the skills and knowledge of community sport and recreation volunteers such as committee members, coaches, team managers, officials and administrators.

Workshops aim to:

  • focus on key local issues to build capacity of local clubs through the skills and knowledge of volunteers
  • inspire new ideas and help you take on challenges which you may face in your volunteer role
  • increase involvement with sport and recreation clubs and organisations in Queensland.

FREE online training for Queensland volunteers

The Queensland Government recognises the important role volunteers play in local sport and recreation clubs and is pleased to partner with QFSR Skills Alliance to offer a number of online training opportunities through the Department's Building Active Communities Workshops program.

All courses are self-paced and take between 2-3 hours to complete

Most workshops run for 3 hours in the evening from 6pm to 9pm on a week night or on a Saturday morning.


All workshops are free.

Delivered by the Queensland Government, in partnership with the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games’ (GC2018) Legacy Program, the Building Active Communities Workshops (BACW) Program is a well-established program offering face-to-face and online training to support and upskill volunteers in grassroots sport and recreation organisations.
