Search the indexes
Indexes are lists of names and other information that we have extracted from a selection of records in our collection. Indexes only include a small portion of the names mentioned in the archives, so although they are good place to start your research, you may need to do a more extensive search in the ArchivesSearch catalogue.
To search the indexes:
- Choose a topic below and open the relevant index
- Enter the name of the person you are looking for under ‘Search by'. For some indexes you can also search by ship name or location, for example. Hit ‘Enter’ or click the search icon to search.
- A list of results will appear. Click on the individual items to find out more.
- If you see a "View image" link in your search results, click on the link to view the archival record online.
- If your results show an "Add to cart" option, this means you cannot see the record online, but you can order a copy of the record. Click on "Add to cart" to pay for the order and add delivery details.
- The "Item details" link takes you to the entry in our catalogue for that item.
You can also search the catalogue using ArchiveSearch.
