Using the online portal

To use the online portal you’ll need the latest version of common browsers. Make sure pop-ups are enabled before you start. The online portal is also accessible on your mobile phone or tablet. If you’re having problems we recommend trying a different device or browser.

Using pre-filled forms

The more information you share with us, the better your experience using the online portal will be. If you can’t complete the whole form now, you can save and return to it within 72 hours.

To access pre-filled forms, either select ‘Log in’ or select the form you want to use from the tiles on the online portal homepage.

For renewals, you’ll need to enter your OFT-issued licence, certificate or organisation number. Select ‘Continue’.

You’ll be asked to log in with a QLD digital ID. A QLD digital ID gives you access to the hundreds of services online offered by the Queensland Government. You can do this using either:

Identity verification

You’ll then be asked to answer some identity (ID) questions to verify and connect your ID with our OFT records. Follow the instructions as you complete the online form.

Once you’ve taken the step to connect your identity with our records:

  • your forms will be pre-filled with your details
  • you won’t need to submit any further identity documents unless something changes
  • you’ll receive online status updates.

This will save you time and effort.

Using forms that aren’t pre-filled

You don’t have to use a QLD digital ID (a QGov account or myGovID) to submit a form online, you can choose to submit a ‘public form’ instead. You’ll still be able to complete the form online, but your details won’t be pre-filled.

To do this, select the form you want to use from the tiles on the online portal homepage, then select the ‘Public form’ button. If you can’t complete the whole form now, you can save it and return to it within 72 hours.

Identity verification

If you aren’t using a QLD digital ID to submit a form, new applicants will need to provide certified ID documents by post or in person at an OFT counter.

The ID you need to provide will vary depending on the application you’re submitting. All documents must be certified by a Justice of the Peace or Commissioner for Declarations, barrister or solicitor, or Notary Public.

Most new licence applicants must provide 1 form of certified ID in their current name from the following list:

  • passport (current or expired within the past 2 years, but not cancelled)
  • birth certificate/extract
  • Australian driver licence
  • Australian citizenship certificate.

However, security providers and tattoo licence applicants must provide 100 points of ID from the following primary and secondary documents (you must include at least 1 primary document).

|
  • letter from employer
  • land rates notice
  • electricity, gas or phone bill*
  • ATM card, credit card, bank statement*
  • council rates notice
  • marriage certificate
  • Medicare card

*You can’t provide more than 1 document from the same financial institution or utility.

Supporting documents

You can upload supporting documents as you complete our forms online. The maximum upload size for all documents combined is 19MG and file types are limited to PDF, JPG, GIF, PNG or BMP formats.

|

You must upload training certificates with your application, unless you’ve held:

  • an equivalent real estate or motor sales registration certificate in Queensland in the last 2 years
  • a security provider licence in the past 12 months and you’re reapplying for the same class of licence (you can get the licence without further training).

View the training requirements for your specific licence or registration:

If your licence or registration isn’t listed, there aren’t any training requirements for it.

Security and tattoo licence and subagent certification applicants must upload a passport quality photo with their application. The photo can be a selfie if it’s passport quality. It doesn’t need to be certified.

Security and tattoo licence applicants must upload certified identity documents for all associates and relevant people. If an associate isn’t licensed, you must supply their full details.

Tattoo licence applicants who aren’t Australian or New Zealand citizens must upload a copy of their international passport. We require it to prove your eligibility to work (not your identity), so it can be an uncertified copy.

Offline process

If you would prefer to complete a paper application form or send us your ID or supporting documents, you can send them to us:

You can also visit an OFT counter to do this in person.

You must pay the required fees, provide certified copies of original identification documents and lodge supporting documents with your application.

Rejected or delayed applications

Your application may be rejected or delayed if:

  • you didn’t pay the required fee when submitting a new licence application online (licence renewal fees can be paid after submitting the application)
  • your criminal history check shows you’re not suitable to hold the licence
  • you didn’t upload the right supporting documents online (e.g. training certificates or photographs)
  • you’re under 18 (except for security equipment installer apprentice licences)
  • you’re subject to a control order, which is a disqualifying offence for security and tattoo licences
  • you have a prohibition order in force and you’re applying for a tattoo licence
  • you’re applying for a tattoo licence and you’re not an Australian citizen and don’t hold a visa that allows you to work in Australia.
