Queenslanders reminded of their rights on World Consumer Rights Day

To mark World Consumer Rights Day today (15 March 2018), the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) has launched a new Resolving disputes and how to lodge a complaint video with tips for Queensland consumers about approaching a trader as well as outlining the OFT complaints process.

Fair Trading Acting Executive Director Craig Routledge reminded Queenslanders their consumer rights apply year round.

“Each and every person is a consumer, and it’s important to know that you have rights and where to go for help if it’s ever needed,” Mr Routledge said.

“The OFT finalised 15,756 complaints in 2017, and Queensland consumers needing help can call, jump online or go into one of OFT’s offices for assistance.”

In addition to launching the new video, the OFT is presenting to several schools and community groups this week to mark World Consumer Rights Day.

The OFT offers these presentations free to help Queenslanders learn about their consumer rights and how to navigate issues and complaints. The OFT presented to over 14,000 Queenslanders in 2017.
